Ongoing – Keep an eye out for 2019’s casting workshops

Acting Performance Studio regularly holds workshops with Australia’s leading casting directors. Participants will gain the experience of what it’s like to audition with a casting director, get feedback on their work, and be seen by experts in the field. Actors will be working on scripts supplied by the casting director and learn tips on how to approach the casting process.

Comedy Workshop with Francis Greenslade

Date: Wednesdays 1st May – 5th June (6 weeks)

Time: 7-10pm

Discover your comedic flair in this six week intensive!

This is an opportunity for students and working actors to focus on acting for comedy and to enhance your comedic technique.

Working on both scenes and monologues, for theatre and screen we will look at questions of commitment, truth and style as well as more formal issues such as timing. Participants are encouraged to bring their own material, although pieces will be provided.

This will be an opportunity for participants to work on their comic performing and also to acquire a comic monologue suitable for auditions.

Francis Greenslade has worked consistently in the theatre and TV for many years. His TV credits include Mad As Hell, The Leftovers, Winners and Losers, Inspector Blake, The Ex-PM, The Micallef Program, Soul Mates and City Homicide. Theatre Credits include The Odd Couple, The Madwoman of Chaillot and Things We Do For Love for the MTC, Urinetown and Babes in the Wood for STC and The Odyssey and Tartuffe for Malthouse.

Mask Workshop with Alex Pinder

Date: Sat 13th – Sunday 14th April 

Time: 10am-4pm

Studio: Acting Performance Studio, Moorabbin 

Fee: $315 for both days

The Neutral Mask is an essential tool in an actor’s training. It enables you to develop a sense of ‘stage presence’ and discover your talents as a performer. The Neutral Mask liberates the actor of inhibitions and encourages them to enjoy the pleasure of performing.

In Neutral Mask we will explore and transpose the world around us into a corporeal response, with a focus on the elements, materials and colors. Through movement analysis we will explore the basic principles of mime and mask technique. Aiming to give participants control and flexibility in how they move in space and respond to the imaginary world they create.

Alex Pinder has been an actor, acting teacher, theatre director for over thirty years. He is a long time graduate of L’Ecole Jacques Lecoq  Paris France, has numerous credits including The Australian Shakespeare Company and the film Hotel Mumbai.

Scene Study with Penny Harpman (6 weeks)

Date: Sundays 26th May – 30th June

Time: 2-5pm

What is the female canon? What does it look like? Who has written it? Who are our foremothers of theatre? Where does the lineage of great female writers start and who is leading the charge now?

Study the texts of Lynn Nottage, Patricia Cornelius, Leah Purcell, Jenny Kemp, Michelle Lee, Caryl Churchill, Nakkiah Lui and others.
