Creating Film: From Pre to Post

About the Class:

Escape into the film world with this Hollywood inspired class designed for 12-16 year olds. Get into ‘set life’ and discover your inner talents as both cast and crew. At Acting Performing Studio, we give you a taste of Hollywood through hands-on learning of each role under the guidance of a tutor.

From cinematographer to sound recorder, or actor to make-up artist, you will find your place ‘on set.’ This course encourages team participation, where we will give you an introduction into all the different roles you will find on a film set. Students will  learn how to be responsible for filming equipment, practice ‘on set’ discipline and learn the art of acting, rotating roles with your peers. You will create a 5-7 minute short film coming up with group script ideas, forming character, relationships, plot, theme, props and costume. You will learn the basic editing processes such as syncing film with sound recordings, practice cutting and trimming techniques as well as adding music, sound effects and credits.

Hone your acting technique by learning everything from stillness, posture and eyeline on camera to embracing the personality of your character to make them more believable and most excitingly, unpredictable. Best of all, your film will be shown in a cinema so you can appreciate the full experience.

Outcomes:

Students will learn how to create the film world from start to finish as a group to make their own short film, both in front and behind the camera, including pre-production, production and post-production. We then develop and refine the student’s acting techniques in audition room fashion.
